Staying muted last week allowed me to turn my focus inward, becoming more introspective of my own heart. I was quiet, reflective, and spent my time and energy focusing on ways that I can contribute to making Black Lives Matter in both my personal and professional life.
Even though we are on the cusp of a new week, the learning does not stop. We must continue our work, both internally and externally, to ensure that we use our privilege to amplify the voices of those who do not have that luxury.
I will continue to share Black Lives Matter content, particularly with respect to injustices that take root daily in our healthcare system. As a medical community, we must do better. I strongly believe that this starts by promoting equality in medical education, increasing the number of black PA applicants, and therefore black PAs. As I move forward into practice as a new grad PA-C, I vow to be conscious of the health disparities at play, doing my part to combat the challenges facing both my black patients and colleagues.
I will slowly phase back into my regular PA related content. With that being said, I have challenged myself to be more aware and inclusive with the content that I am posting. Now more than ever, my goal is to serve each and every one of you - educating, supporting, and advocating for you on your path to becoming a PA.
