KEEPING UP WITH MY BERNEDOODLES⁣

Writer's picture: Deejay, PA-CDeejay, PA-C

We've known each other for a little while now and I feel that it's only right that I introduce you to my two bestie girls, Demi & Delta. These spunky Bernedoodles, who happen to be 7 months apart (don't ask me why we thought this was a good idea), keep me on my toes and have forced me to be physically active during this quarantine. Fun fact, my undergrad degree is in kinesiology so I kind of geek out over all things movement related, but if we're being honest, I was just looking for a reason to share this adorable picture with you guys so YOU'RE WELCOME.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐒:⁣⁣

▫️1/4 adults in the US are sedentary, sitting for > 8 hrs/day⁣⁣

▫️Sedentary lifestyle is associated with poor health outcomes such as increased mortality, increased incidence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer ⁣⁣

▫️Risk of mortality is greater for those who sit for prolonged/uninterrupted periods as compared with those who sit for shorter/interrupted periods ⁣⁣

⁣⁣

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐀 𝐃𝐎𝐆:⁣⁣

-Walking for 30 minutes = 4000 steps or 2 miles (goal is 7000-10,000 steps/day)⁣⁣

-One large prospective observational study showed that subjects who walked just 15 min/day (90 min/week) had a 14% reduction in mortality as compared to those who did not⁣⁣

-See above photo⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Physical activity decreases mortality and the benefits are dose dependent so I highly recommend you get a dog (or two) to promote your health and well-being. ⁣⁣

⁣⁣

What ways have you found to stay physically active? More importantly, how much are your pups enjoying this quarantine?⁣⁣
