𝗪𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓:
▫️Each preceptor operated differently and provided varying levels of autonomy
▫️Arrive 30 minutes early to round on select patients – history and physical exam
▫️Present to preceptor
▫️Round again with preceptor
▫️Discuss differential, assessment, plan, and dispo
▫️Order and review labs/imaging
▫️Write 2-3 notes/shift
▫️Self-study while preceptor charts
𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐒 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐃:
▫️This was one of very few rotations that did not have procedures involved
𝐓𝐈𝐏𝐒:
▫️Be familiar with most common chronic illnesses – hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, COPD, asthma, depression, chronic kidney disease, congestive heart failure ▫️You will likely be pimped on complex pathophysiology – don’t be too hard on yourself, some of these things we merely brush over in PA school, study up if asked
▫️Review basic labs, electrolyte abnormalities, and acid/base disturbances
▫️Hospitalists write their notes much differently than we learn in PA school – assessment/plan are typically first and they address every disease/disorder on the problem list
